Clay County Fair Set for Sept. 14-17
The Clay County Fair will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 14 to 17, at the faigrounds in Piggott. In a change made last year, the annual pageants held in conjunction with the fair have been moved back to the Saturday before the start, to allow use of the commercial building during the event. The pageants will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, with the Baby Mr. and Miss Clay County pageants, and will continue throughout the day. The baby pageant is open to boys and girls ages birth through 11 months and the attire is Sunday dress.
The Toddler Mr. and Miss Clay County pageant will follow at 10:30, and is open to boys and girls ages 12 through 24 months. This pageant also features Sunday dress as the appropriate attire. At 11 a.m. the Little Miss Clay County pageant will be held for girls ages two to four, and Sunday dress is the attire.
The Petite Miss Clay County pageant is set for noon, and is open to young ladies ages five to seven. This event also features Sunday dress as the appropriate attire.
At 1 p.m. Young Miss Clay County will be chosen among contetants ages eight to 10, and Sunday dress is the attire. The next event is set for 2 p.m. and you ladies ages 11 to 12 compete for the title of Young Junior Miss Clay County. Organizers note this event will feature pageant wear as the appropriate attire.
At 3 p.m. contestants ages 13 to 16 will take part in the Junior Miss Clay County pageant, which will also feature pageant wear as the appropriate attire.

The Miss Clay County pageant is scheduled for 5 p.m., and is open to ladies ages 17 to 21. This event also features pageant dress as the proper attire. And the final pageant of the day is set for 6:30 p.m. as Mrs. Clay County is chosen for 2016. The pageant is open to ladies from the county who have been married, or are divorced, and pageant wear will be featured. A practice for the Mrs. Clay County pageant has also been planned, and will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Activities at the fair will continue Wednesday with set-up of booths and check-in of livestock and horses. The first armband will also be offered for that evening. Thursday will include judging and youth day activities are on tap for Friday. Saturday's activities include the annual parade at 10 a.m., canine contest at 11 a.m. and the Farmer for a Day, from 1-2 p.m. Demolition derby will also be featured in the rodeo arena Saturday night, with the peewee derby at 6:30 p.m. and the main event at 7.
