Mohawk Tennis Teams Notch Wins
The Mohawk tennis teams visited the Paragould Rams on Thursday, Sept. 6, and swept both boys and girls play. The squads were scheduled to be in action Monday, but scores were not available as of press time.
The Lady Mohawks swept the Rams in singles play, with Emilee Seegraves beating Madi Wood 6-0 and Kourtney Chadwell downing Kenna McCormack 4-0.
In doubles play the teams split 3-3, giving the match nod to the Tribe. Seegraves and Chadwell won their set with Whitley Roberts and Jenna Brittingham 4-0, Seegraves and Erin Dixon downed Faith Jankowzak and Claire Phillips 4-2 and Seegraves and McCaleh Foulk beat Anna Gazaway and McKenna Timmons 4-2. Chadwell and Dixon dropped theirs with Wood and Phillips 0-4, Chadwell and Foulk fell to Hailey Bounds and Jameson 2-4 and Dixon and Foulk fell to Katie Taylor and Sadie Wicher 1-4.
With the win the girls team improves to 5-1-1 overall on the season.
The Mohawk boys team took their match with Paragould 5-1, sweeping singles play and taking 2 of 3 in doubles action.
In singles play, Josh Lyman beat Collin Kingston 7-5, Carrington McDaniel got by Shawn Price 6-3 and Andy Risner downed Baui Baquit 4-1. In doubles play it was Lyman and McDaniel over Kingston and Price 6-1 and Cooper Harris and Michael Palmer beat Kingston and Baquit 6-2. The only loss came as Risner and Noah Fuller dropped their set with Price and Baquit 3-6.
With the win the Piggott Mohawk boys tennis team extends their record to 4-2-1 overall.
Both squads were scheduled for conference play with Harding Academy and Riverside on Monday. Tuesday's match at Corning has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, and the teams are slated to take on Earle, Newport and Cedar Ridge at Allen Park in Jonesboro on Monday, Sept. 19.
