Busy Week for Lady Mohawk VB
The Piggott Lady Mohawk volleyball teams swept a pair of non-conference sets last week, then split with Pocahontas on Monday. All squads are slated to be in action Thursday at Harrisburg, and the senior squad will participate in the ASU Playday on Saturday, in Jonesboro.
The Tribe swept Ridgefield Christian at home last Tuesday, with both the junior and senior teams taking the victory in straight sets. For the junior squad, they won the day with scores of 25-19 and 25-23.
As for the senior squad, they took the match in straight sets as well, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22. Leading the way was Colby Crossfield with 28 assists, 2 kills and 2 aces. Hannah Powell had a strong showing, with 20 of 22 receptions, 7 digs, 1 ace and 1 assist; Emily Trosper was 9 of 10 on receptions with 7 kills and 1 ace; Ally Kilbreath had 7 kills and 1 ace; Lexi Herren was 7 for 8 in receptions; Grayson Murray recorded 7 kills and Bailey Davis had 5 kills in the win.
The Tribe hosted non-conference Trumann at PHS last Thursday, and again swept their visitors in straight sets. The junior girls notched yet another win, 25-19 and 25-23.
The senior squad also won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-11 and 25-14 over the 4A Lady Wildcats. Leading the way once again was Crossfield, with 22 assists, 2 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs on the night. Meanwhile, Powell was 13 of 15 in receptions with 8 digs; Trosper had 11 kills, was 11 for 11 in receptions with an ace; Davis had 5 kills; Murray had 4 kills; Harley Earnheart had 3 aces and 2 kills; Herren had 5 digs and 2 aces and Kilbreath finished with 3 kills in the win.
Monday afternoon the Lady Mohawks visited Pocahontas for a non-conference set with the Lady Redskins and split on the day. On the day, the junior girls took another win 25-15 and 25-20.
As for the senior girls, they lost their match in a grueling five-set battle--14-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18 and 13-15. And, once again the Tribe looked to Crossfield for leadership, as she had 22 assists, 8 kills, 5 aces and 6 digs. Meanwhile, Davis had 10 kills and 3 blocks; Trosper contributed 8 kills, 3 aces and 3 digs; Earnheart had 5 kills, 3 aces and a dig and Powell was 14 of 16 in receptions with 16 digs and 2 aces in the loss.
Following this week's non-conference action with Harrisburg, and at A-State, the Lady Mohawks will continue the conference schedule by hosting Hoxie on Monday, Sept. 26. The following day they'll host the Brookland Lady Bearcats in non-conference play, and on Thursday, Sept. 29, they'll visit the Westside Lady Warriors for yet another non-conference set. The junior team will also be playing in a tournament at Brookland next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30, and Oct. 1, at BHS.
