Long-time Local Farmer, School Board President, Vangilder Dead at 70
Long-time local farmer Dale Vangilder, a lifetime resident of the Rector area, died Sunday, September 25, following a lengthy illness. Vangilder was a native of the Leonard Community, and spent his entire life farming in the area. He also served on the Rector School Board from October of 1989 to September of 2011, including several terms as board president.
Vangilder suffered a debilitating stroke in 2014, prompting an outpouring of support from his friends and neighbors, as they joined-in to help harvest his crops. Forced to retire from the work he loved, he had most recently been a resident of the General Baptist Nursing Home of Piggott.
Funeral services will held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the First Baptist Church of Rector. Internment was in the Woodland Heights Cemetery. The complete obituary may be found in that section of this website.
