PHS Tennis Team Update

The Piggott Mohawk tennis teams took part in a four-way match Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Jonesboro, with conference mates Harding Academy and Corning along with non-conference Pocahontas.

Harding Academy

The Tribe fell to Harding Academy in both boys and girls play at Allen Park, with the girls dropping their match 1-2 while the boys fell 1-6.

The lone win for the Lady Mohawks came in singles play, as Emilee Seegraves got by Rachel Story 6-2. In doubles play Kourtney Chadwell and Sophi Adams fell to Maddie Lowery and Jasie Mason 0-6 and Erin Dixon and McCaleh Foulk dropped their match with Rebecca Lynn and Eryka Berryhill 4-6.

In boy's play it was all Harding Academy in singles play, as Caleb Higgins fell to Matt Francis 4-6; Andy Risner lost to Charlie Yang 2-6; Brier Staples fell to John Luke McGaillard 6-7(1-7) and Noah Fulle fell to McGaillard 2-6.

In doubles play it was Josh Lyman and Carrington McDaniel notching the only win, 6-3 over Ben Moore and Mason Laferney. Meanwhile, Cooper Harris and Michael Palmer fell to Francis and Moore 0-6 and Aston Edward and Kaleb Chadwell fell to Yang and Laferney 1-6.


The Lady Mohawks fell 1-2 to the Lady Redskins, all in doubles play. The lone win came as Seegraves and Alex McDaniel beat Skyla Frazzer and Brooke Spurlock 6-0. Meanwhile, Chadwell and Adams fell to Frazier and Spurlock 2-6 and Dixon and Foulk also fell to the duo 0-6.

The boys team was swept by the Redskins, as they fell 0-8 on the day. In singles play Lyman fell to Lanzlo Golac 0-6, McDaniel also dropped a set with Golac 0-6, Risner was beaten by Chase McDonough 0-6 and Staples fell to Kyle Kazcmanski 6-7(3-7).

In doubles play Lyman and McDaniel fell to Ty McDonnough and Trevor Overbay 4-6; harris and Palmer fell to Chase McDonnough and Kaczmanski 4-6; Edward and Fuller dropped their set with Jake Wren and Alec Smith 1-6 and Risner and Staples were beaten by Capps and Carter 4-6.


The Lady Mohawks fell to Corning in conference play 3-4, while the boys took their match with the Bobcats 2-1 to gain the split.

In girls singles action, Seegraves beat Allison Landreth 6-0 and then downed Hannah Blankenship 6-0. McDaniel beat Tiger Lily 6-0, then fell to Katie Clifford 1-6. In doubles play Chadwell and Adams fell to Carpenter and Alleah Davis 0-6; Dixon and Foulk fell to Maggie Couch and Cara Johnson 0-6 and the same pair lost to Kelsey Watson and Blankenship 1-6.

The boys took their match with a split in singles play, with Risner beating Brayden Hewett 7-5 and Higgins falling to Clint Hovis 2-6. In doubles action, Piggott's Lyman and McDaniel rolled over Hovis and Hewett 4-0 to gain the win.

Following the matches the Lady Mohawks moved to 7-8-2 on the season while the boys team improved to 9-5-3. The Tribe was scheduled to take on Corning Monday afternoon, and will be playing in the district tournament at Jonesboro this Thursday, Oct. 6.
