Lady Mohawk Volleyball Squad in Action

The Piggott Lady Mohawks have played three matches in the past week, splitting with CRA and Ridgefield Christian at PHS last week and falling on the road to Hoxie on Monday evening. Tuesday they were slated to visit the Trumann Lady Wildcats in non-conference play, although scores and stats were not available as of press time.


The Lady Mohawks and the Lady Falcons all donned pink last Tuesday, Oct. 4, with the "Dig Pink" promotion to draw attention to breast cancer awareness. The two squads split on the night, with the junior girls falling in three sets while the Lady Mohawks needed four sets to dispose of the varsity squad.

The junior girls dropped their match with CRA by set scores of 25-20, 23-25 and 11-15.

As for the senior girls, they beat the Lady Falcons in the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-15, then stumbled in the third and dropped it 24-26. But, the squad rebounded in the nightcap with a decisive 25-4 win, after shutting out the Lady Falcons for much of the final set.

Colby Crossfield led the way with 30 assists, 4 aces and 2 kills; Emily Trosper had 12 kills, 6 aces and was 19 of 20 in receptions; Hannah Powell had 16 digs, 2 aces and was 16 of 18 in receptions; Lexi Herren finished with 12 digs and was 10 for 10 on receptions; Ally Kilbreath had 9 kills, Bailey Davis added 6 more kills and Grayson Murray had 3 kills in the win.


The Tribe hosted Ridgefield Christian Thursday evening at PHS, and split on the night. The junior high squad continued to have their issues, as they dropped the match in three sets, 25-20, 23-25 and 11-15.

As for the senior squad, they swept the visitors in three sets, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23.

Crossfield once again had a strong match, with 24 assists, 3 kills and 16 for 16 serving; Herren was 10 for 11 on receptions, was 15 for 15 serving and had 3 aces and 6 digs; Powell was 11 for 14 on receptions with 9 digs, Trosper had 5 blocks, 7 kills and was 10 for 10 on receptions; David added 4 blocks and 4 kills and Murray finished with 5 kills in the victory.


Monday evening the Lady Mohawks traveled to Hoxie and took on the Lady Mustangs, and suffered a rare sweep. The junior high fell in three sets, 25-15, 21-25 and 5-15. As for the senior squad, they also fell in straight sets, 14-25, 19-25 and 25-27.

Crossfield finished with 19 assists and 3 kills in the loss; Herren was 11 for 11 serving with 4 digs and 14 of 15 receptions; Earnheart had 7 kills, Powell added 8 digs and Kilbreath had 5 kills to her credit.

All teams visited Trumann on Tuesday and swept the day, and the Lady Mohawks will mark senior night this Thursday, Oct. 13, as they take on Walnut Ridge. The district tournament will be played on Oct. 15, at CRA.
