The Piggott High School Marching Mohawk Band competed in the AA State Marching Championship Tuesday, Nov. 1, at North Little Rock High School. The band had advanced to the state finals by earning a First Division rating at the Region V Marching Assessment in Paragould, held Oct. 18.

The community gave the band a send-off Monday afternoon, including police escort. Later, they practiced at Jacksonville High School in preparation for Tuesday's performance.

The Marching Mohawks competed around mid-day, and garnered a superior rating, finishing second among the nine schools in their division. First place went to Prescott, and the remaining contestants included Glen Rose, Jessieville, Cotter, Gurdon, Magnet Cove, Fouke and Bismarck.

The runner-up finish at state caps an excellent year for the PHS band program, and more details may be found in the Nov. 9, edition of the CCTD.
