The Piggott Junior Mohawks closed out their season with a 24-6 loss at Hoxie on Thursday, Oct. 27. The host Mustangs jumped-out to a 16-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and added another touchdown and two-point conversion in the second. As for the young Mohawks, their lone score came late in the game as Zac Gilbee broke a 20 yard touchdown run, although the extra point conversion was no good, to set the final score.

Tanner Dixon, who took over the starting quarterback job due to the injury to Michael Parker, was 2 for 7 passing with a total of 17 yards. Catching both the Dixon passes was Drake Featherston. He also led the team in rushing with 58 yards on 11 carries while Logan Ralph had 33 yards on 2 carries and Gilbee finished with 30 yards on 5 totes.

Leading the Mohawk defense was Corbin Midkiff with 6 tackles while Featherston contributed another 5.

Hoxie scored on runs of 22, 20 and 4 yards in the first half while Gilbee's 20 yard romp came with just under a minute to play in the contest. Total yardage on the game was much closer than the score, as the Mustangs shaded the Mohawks 184 to 143.

The Junior Mohawks end their season with a record of 2-6, with wins over Corning and Manila. On the bright side, although the squad was fairly young and inexperienced, they'll return several starters as freshman for next fall's campaign.
