Both the Piggott Mohawks and Rector Cougars were victorious Thursday evening in week 10 high school football action. The Cougars finally broke their 32 game losing streak in strong form, traveling to Midland and trouncing the Mustangs 41-6.

The Mohawks hosted Corning for senior night in the annual Rice Bowl showdown at Parker Field, and rolled to a 55-14 decision. The point total also gives the 2016 squad the distinction as the highest scoring team in the modern era of school history.

The Cougars end their campaign, and based on the performance of the talented junior high squad, have a lot to look forward to in 2017.

The Mohawks now prepare to travel to Cedar Ridge next Friday to take on the Timberwolves in the first round of the 3A state football playoffs. Cedar Ridge (6-4) ended their season Thursday night at Bald Knob as they fell 34-7 to the undefeated Bulldogs.

A complete update on Week 10, and playoff preview, may be found in the upcoming edition of the CCTD. And, congrats to both our local teams on big wins Thursday night!
