Carl "Zig" Williams
Carl "Zig" Williams, 85, of Mountain Grove, Mo., passed away November 14, 2016, in Springfield, Mo.
He was born on September 24, 1931, in Pollard, Ark., and was the son of the late Edgar and Anna (Pleasant) Williams.
He was united in marriage to Barbara June James on November 19, 1951, and to this union four children were born.
Zig, known as "Coach Williams" to many, coached the Piggott Mohawks from 1960 through 1969 compiling a record of 82-18-5. He then coached the Mountain Grove Panthers from 1970 through 1986 with a record of 124-60-6. Zig had a passion for his players and for the game that left a legacy that not only showed in his overall lifetime record of 206-60-6 but in the lives of his players. His passion did not stop at football but extended to playing golf and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Williams; two sons, David and wife Rhonda of Ava, Mo. and Wade of Rector, Ark.; two daughters, Pamela and husband Gary of Hot Springs Village, Ark. and Sarah of Mountain Grove, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Andrea Rogers (Nick), Amie Davis (Ryan), Nick Williams, Tyler Williams, Breana Williams, Haley Williams, Ashley Catt (Daniel), Matt Collins and Chad Collins (Courtney); six great-grandchildren, Nolan Rogers, Turner Davis, Reid Davis, Maddox Catt, Creed Collins and Cash Collins; a sister, Ora Dean Sale of Piggott; a niece, Deborah Sale; a nephew, Scot Sale, and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Mountain Grove High School Arena in Mountain Grove, Mo. The family received visitors prior to the service.
An additional memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott. The family received visitors from noon until service time at the funeral home.
