Mary Helen McHaffey
Mary Helen McHaffey, 94, of Greenway, Ark., passed away November 18, 2016, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital, Desoto, Miss.
She was born on February 22, 1922, in Clay County, Ark., near Greenway, and was the daughter of the late W. S. and Judith (Whittington) Garrard.
She was united in marriage to C. G. "Mack" McHaffey on Oct. 4, 1944, and to this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack McHaffey; her son, John McHaffey; two brothers, Joe David Garrard and Bill Garrard, and four sisters, Opal Pulliam, Florence Wagoner, Beatrice Thoreson and Ann Stacy.
Mary was a graduate of Baptist Memorial School of Nursing in Memphis, Tenn., and worked as an RN at Piggott Community Hospital and Dunklin County Memorial Hospital in Kennett, Mo.
Survivors include her children, Becky Whitehorn and husband Garry of Byhalia, Miss.; Jim McHaffey and wife Patty of Greenway and Bill McHaffey of Greenway; daughter-in-law, Loretta McHaffey of Piggott, grandchildren, JoAnn Rowland (Brian), Garry Dewain Whitehorn (Nikki), Billy Raymond Whitehorn (Christy), Tonya Ray May (Danny), Kenneth "Bubba" McHaffey (Ashley), Elizabeth McHaffey (Dexter Bostic) and Claburn McHaffey; nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Rebecca, Billy Ray (Megan), Clay, Adam, Madison Paige, Dawson Edward, Gracie Lane and Steel ("on-the-way"); a sister, Glenda Evans of Germantown, Tenn. and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jerry Morgan officiating. Burial will be held at Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers are Billy Ray Whitehorn, Bubba McHaffey, Dexter Bostic, Danny May, Brian Rowland and Claburn McHaffey. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at noon Monday, and will continue until the time of the service at the funeral home.
