The sights and sounds of the holiday season will be the order of the day on Saturday, Dec. 10, as the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Christmas Fest and parade. This year Christmas Fest has been moved-back to a Saturday, after being held on Sunday afternoon the past several Decembers. Activities are scheduled around the Piggott square from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by the annual parade.

This year's Christmas Fest will include many of the traditional favorites, and Santa has a new house this year and will be on hand for photos prior to leaving to participate in the parade. "We want to remind everyone to bring their own camera, or phone, to get pictures with Santa Claus from 2 to around 4:30 p.m.," Chamber Secretary Jan Glover noted.

Free hot dogs will be handed-out courtesy of First National Bank, Piggott Banking Center, and Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church will be providing, and serving, free hot chocolate and coffee.

Another returning favorite is the booth manned by members of Eastern Star Lodge #207, of St. Francis. They'll be selling chili for a donation, and will then turn the funds over to the chamber for the purchase of toys for the drawings.

A variety of vendors have already been signed-up, but Glover added space is still available.

"Those interested in being a vendor can contact me at the chamber office at 870 598-3167," she added. "The office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but closed from 1 to 1:30 for lunch."

Drawings will be held during the event, and a special drawing for bicycles will be held following the parade, but you must be present to win. In keeping with another tradition, the bikes were donated by Piggott State Bank.

The parade will line-up beginning at 4:30 in the parking lot of Piggott Elementary School, and will get underway at 5 p.m.

The parade will travel west on Main Street to the First Baptist Church. Currently entries are being recruited, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. This year's parade categories include best float, best bicycle, best utility vehicle, best antique car, best antique tractor, best motorcycle and best horse, or horse and buggy.

Additional information on the parade is also available from Glover, and she may also be reached by email at chamberpg@yahoo.com
