RHS Hoops Season Continues
The Rector Cougars split a pair of games in the past week, falling to conference leading-Ridgefield Christian last Tuesday, then beating CRA by four points on Friday, Dec. 9. The squad was scheduled to be in action Tuesday evening, hosting White County Central, but the games were cancelled due to issues with the officials.
The Cougars fell to the Warriors of Ridgefield Christian for the second time last Tuesday, dropping a 74-58 decision. Friday night they took on the Falcons of Crowley's Ridge Academy, and posted a 61-57 conference win.
Despite a strong first quarter by the Falcons, which saw them jump to a 19-10 lead, the Rector boys battled back to take a 27-25 lead into the locker room at the half. The Falcons tried to respond in the third, outscoring the Cougars 15-14 in the frame. But, the RHS boys were strong down the stretch, outscoring CRA 20-17 in the fourth to take the win.
Following last week's action the Cougars now stand at 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Currently, Ridgefield Christian leads the conference hunt, followed by Armorel, Bay, CRA, the Cougars then Maynard and KIPP Blytheville.
The Cougars were scheduled to play host to White County Central on Tuesday evening, but due to a conflict in scheduling the officials were not available and the game has been cancelled. Both the boys and girls will be in action at home this Thursday, as they play host to the Marmaduke Greyhounds at RHS. At halftime of the senior girls game the Rector Cougar Junior High Football team will be recognized for their undefeated season, and at halftime of the senior boys game last year's inductees into the RHS Sports Hall of Fame will be recognized as well.
Both the senior boys and senior girls will be in action in the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament being played Dec. 19 to 29 at the Convocation Center. They'll also be playing in the Kell Classic around New Years, and into early January.
The Rector Lady Cougars visited 3A Hoxie Friday evening, and came out on the short end of a 64-22 decision. The Lady Mustangs outscored the RHS girls in each frame, jumping to a 20-7 lead after one, then leading 36-12 at the break and 54-18 after three periods of play.
With the loss the squad falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Rector girls were scheduled to take on the Lady Lions at Manila on Tuesday evening, and will join the boys teams in hosting Marmaduke Thursday night at RHS. At halftime of the senior girls game, the undefeated and conference champion Rector Junior Cougar football team will be introduced and recognized.
The girls will also be busy during the upcoming holidays, as they'll be playing in both the NEARK Invitational Tournament at the Convocation Center and the Kell Classic.
