Daniel Webster McBride
Daniel Webster McBride, of Paragould, Ark., and formerly of Rector, Ark., passed away December 21, 2016, at the age of 93. He was born in Rector on December 21, 1923, to Irene (McPherson) McBride and Edward Alfred McBride. He was preceded in death by his firs wife, Frances Irby McBride, and his sister, Frances Louise Tracy.
Dan is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Dana Speer and husband, Alton and Lisa Trent and husband, David; his grandsons, Greg Speer and his wife, Stephanie, and Grant Speer and his wife, Rebecca; his great-grandchildren, Shelby and Austin Speer, along with several nieces and nephews.
Dan was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps as a night-fighter pilot. He later resigned that commission to accept a commission in the Army Reserves in order to help form the Rector unit of the National Guard. He also served as that unit's first Commanding Officer.
He was associated with Irby Funeral Home from 1946 through 1981 as a funeral director, embalmer and owner. He served on the Arkansas Embalmers and Funeral Directors Board and the Arkansas State Burial Association Board, serving as president one year on each. He was also on the board of directors of Memorial Insurance for 20 years. Dan was a lifelong member of the Rector First United Methodist Church.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, at the Rector First United Methodist Church, followed by a visitation. Burial will be private.
