Lady Cougars Fall to Tuckerman in Kell Classic Opener

Rector (2-10) struggled offensively all night, and Tuckerman took advantage posting a 52-21 win over the Lady Cougars in their opening round game of the Kell Classic being played at Swifton.

Dominique Coln scored inside for Rectors first points as the Lady Bulldogs hit two free throws to make it 2-2. Gabby Clark hit one of two free throws for the Lady Cougars before Tuckerman hit two free throws and a jumper in the lane to make the score 6-3 Lady Bulldogs. Clark hit one of two free throws on back-to-back trips to the line to make the score 6-5 Tuckerman at the end of one quarter of play.

Tuckerman hit three of four free throws early in the second quarter to make the score 9-5 Lady Bulldogs and Clark hit one of two free throws for Rector cutting the lead to 9-6 Tuckerman. The Lady Bulldogs connected on two free throws, Matison Dean scored inside for Rector, the Lady Bulldogs canned a three-pointer as Dean hit a running jumper for the Lady Cougars to make the score 14-10 Tuckerman. The Lady Bulldogs closed the quarter on a 6-1 run with Dean hitting a lone free throw for the Lady Cougars to set the score at 20-11 Tuckerman at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs hit a jumper to open the scoring in the third quarter before Rector got back-to-back baskets from Dean and Coln to cut the lead to seven points, 22-15 Tuckerman. The Lady Bulldogs then went on a run, scoring the next 15 points to increase their lead to 37-15 before Dean's two free throws stopped the Tuckerman onslaught with the score 37-17. The Lady Bulldogs added another basket, and one of two free throws, making the score 40-17 Tuckerman at the end of three.

Tuckerman scored inside to open the fourth quarter as Shianne Rients netted a three-pointer for Rector to make the score 42-20 Lady Bulldogs. Tuckerman scored the next 10 points to push their lead to 52-20 before Rients hit one of two free throws for the Lady Cougars with less than 10 seconds left to set the final score at 52-21.

"I thought we played good defensively the first half only giving up 20 points unfortunately we only scored 11," Rector head coach Matt Dean said of his team. "Our shots have not been going well lately, hopefully the new year will get our offense going again," Dean added.

Dean led the Lady Cougars in scoring with nine points as Coln, Clark and Rients each scored four points.

The girls are scheduled to return to regular season action Friday evening at Sloan-Hendrix, and are slated to host Corning on Monday at RHS.
