'Hounds Run in Kell Classic Ends in Semi's
Marmaduke (6-10) couldn't find a way to slow down Tuckerman's offense, as the Bulldogs led from start-to-finish in their Kell Classic semi-final contest. Tuckerman increased their lead in each quarter on their way to a 73-47 win over the Greyhounds this past Saturday in Swifton.
Tuckerman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Derek Agee got a steal and hit a jumper for Marmaduke to make it 4-2. The Bulldogs netted a three-pointer as Bryson Horton canned back to back three-pointers for the Greyhounds to make it 8-7 Marmaduke. Tuckerman hit a trey and added two free throws before Landon McKinney's baseline jumper for the Greyhounds made the score 12-10 Bulldogs with 3:14 left. Tuckerman converted an old-school three-point play, Horton hit a jumper for the Greyhounds, the Bulldogs got one of two free throws and a three-ball before Horton hit a jumper to make the score 20-14 Tuckerman after one.
The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and basket inside as Marmaduke answered with back to back treys from Horton and Jonathan Webb to make it 25-20 Tuckerman. Six straight Tuckerman points made it 31-20 before Horton netted another three-ball to make it 31-23 Tuckerman. The Bulldogs scored the next seven points as Horton hit a jumper with ten seconds left to make the score 38-25 Tuckerman at the half.
Tuckerman opened the quarter with a three-pointer as Jacob Caraway hit a jumper in the lane for Marmaduke to make the score 41-27 Bulldogs. A jumper and back to back three-pointers pushed Tuckerman's lead to 49-27 before Horton's three-pointer for Marmaduke made it 49-30 with 4:14 left. The Bulldogs hit a three-pointer and made a basket inside before Agee converted an old-fashioned three-point play to make the score 54-33 Tuckerman. Horton's jumper after an 8-0 Tuckerman run gave the Bulldogs a 62-35 lead after three quarters of play.
Chad Hall canned a three-pointer for Marmaduke only to see Tuckerman hit two three-ball around an inside basket to make the score 70-38 Bulldogs. The Greyhounds got a jumper form Agee and two free throws from Horton before Tuckerman converted a conventional three-point play to make it 73-42 Bulldogs with 3:32 left. Horton drilled a three pointer from the top of the key for Marmaduke and Billy Elder scored inside for the Greyhounds to make the final score 73-47 Tuckerman.
"Defensively I thought they played their butts off as we kept it competitive for awhile," Marmaduke head coach Justin Ward said after the game. "We hit a slide in the third quarter and they (Pangburn) got hot. They shot the ball well and we made to many mistakes to keep us in the game," Ward added.
Horton led Marmaduke with 28 points as Agee finished with 7 points. Webb and Hall each netted 3 points as McKinney, Caraway and Elder each chipped in 2 points in the loss.
