The Piggott Lady Mohawk junior squad continues to battle through a tough season, as they dropped games to Maynard and Ridgefield Christian in the past several days. Tuesday night they hosted Corning at PHS, in a three-game-set with the junior and senior boys and fell in conference play.

Maynard

Last Thursday the Lady Mohawks hosted Maynard in regular season action at PHS, and despite a second half comeback, dropped a 30-24 decision. Playing in their first game since the holiday break, both teams came out cold in the early going and could only muster a handful of points, giving the visitors a 7-3 lead after one. Both teams had better success in the second, playing fairly even, as the Tigers took a 14-11 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the difference for the Tribe, as they were outscored 10-2 in the frame as the Maynard girls took a 24-13 lead into the fourth. Down the stretch the Piggott girls mounted a strong comeback, pulling to within a basket several times. As the game played out the Tribe came up just short, outscoring the visitors 11-6 in the period as they fell by six points.

Taylor Seal led the Tribe with 10 points, while Claire Bellers finished with 6, Madison Rahn had 4 and Abby Dutka and Kaylee Edwards finished with 2 points each. The Lady Tigers were led by Emma Cline with 13 points. As a team the Tribe was 2 for 8 from the free throw line, while the Tigers made 4 of their 6 attempts.

Ridgefield Christian

Monday evening the girls traveled to south Jonesboro with the boys teams to take on Ridgefield Christian, and fell by a final score of 37-18. The Lady Warriors outscored the Tribe in all but the fourth quarter, taking the first three 15-4, 10-6 and 8-2 en route to the win.

Leading the scoring for the Mohawks was Rahn with 6, while Dutka and Bellers had 5 each and Seal and Edwards each had 2 points in the loss. As a team the Lady Mohawks were just 1 for 5 from the free throw line, while Ridgefield Christian converted on 5 of 8 tries at the line.

Details on the Corning loss may be found in the Jan. 18, edition of the CCTD.

The girls are scheduled to visit Hoxie Friday evening, and will be home for a set with Pocahontas on Monday.
