The Piggott Lady Mohawks dropped three games in the past week, and Monday evening the seventh grade girls also competed but came up short. They'll return to action next Tuesday, Jan. 24, against Walnut Ridge.

The girls hosted Corning at PHS last Monday as part of a three game set with the boys teams and dropped a 38-19 conference decision. The Lady Bobcats started strong, and enjoyed an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. They extended the advantage to 19-11 at the break and led 28-15 after three en route to the win.

Leading the way for the Mohawk offense was Taylor Seal with 9 points, while Claire Bellers finished with 4, Madison Rahn had 3, Abby Dutka finished with 2 and Makaylia Allman had a free throw. Hannah Blankenship led the Lady Bobcats on the night with 15.

The Junior Lady Mohawks accompanied the boys teams to Hoxie on Thursday, Jan. 12, and came out on the short end of a 53-34 score. Once again the Piggott girls got off to a slow start in the conference game, and found themselves trailing 21-1 by the end of the first. The Tribe responded to take the second frame 14-11, as they cut the halftime deficit to 32-15 in favor of the Lady Mustangs.

The Mohawks also outscored their hosts in the third, taking the frame 11-9, as the hosts led 41-26 going into the fourth quarter. The final frame belonged to Hoxie, as they outscored the Tribe 14-8 in the period to set the final score.

Seal once again had the hot hand for the Mohawks, hitting four three-pointers en route to a 17 point performance. Rounding out the Piggott scoring were Bellers with 8, Rahn with 7 and Allman with 2 points.

The Piggott girls hosted Pocahontas Monday night at PHS, and were swept on the night.

In the junior girls game the Piggott squad continued to have trouble scoring early, as they were once again shut out in the first quarter. Trailing 11-0, they could only muster a field goal in the second quarter as the Lady Redskins enjoyed a 24-2 halftime advantage.

The third quarter also went to Pocahontas, 6-5, but the Piggott girls responded with a 9-2 advantage in the fourth quarter to set the final score.

Top scorer for the Tribe was Seal with 5, while Rahn and Allman had 4 each and Abby Dutka finished with 3 points. Johnson led Pocahontas with 16.

Seventh Grade

The seventh grade Lady Mohawks played a rare contest against Pochahontas, coming up just short in a 19-11 decision. Trailing 8-0 after the first quarter, and 16-5 at the break, they battled back in the second half to keep the game close.

Callie Henson was top scorer for the Tribe with 5, Shawnee Latimer finished with 4 and Elise Gossett had 2 points in the loss.

The Lady Mohawks will also be making up the game at Melbourne, which was postponed Friday, Jan. 6, due to the weather. The game will be made-up on Monday, Jan. 30, played in conjunction with the junior and senior boys.
