Basketball Junior Conference Tournament Preview
Junior conference tournaments get underway today across the region, with the majority of our local teams in action. Piggott High School is hosting the 3A-3 with games today, Monday, Feb. 6, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Meanwhile, the Rector Cougars and Marmaduke Greyhounds will be competing in their conference tourney at Sloan-Hendrix in Imboden with games today, Thursday and Saturday.
In the 3A-3 at PHS today Rivercrest and Walnut Ridge will meet at 4 p.m. in the girls bracket, followed by Walnut Ridge and Rivercrest in the boys bracket at 5. The Hoxie and Manila girls meet in the 6 p.m. contest and the Mohawk boys squad will face Riverside in the 7 p.m. nightcap.
At Sloan-Hendrix today, Marmaduke's boys will take on Ridgefield Christian in the 4 p.m. game, followed around 5:10 by the Rector Junior Lady Cougars and Ridgefield Christian. The third game will feature the Junior Cougars taking on CRA around 6:20 p.m. with Hillcrest meeting Maynard in the girls bracket in the 7:30 game and the host Sloan-Hendrix boys meeting the Maynard Tigers in the boys bracket in the nightcap, around 8:40.
There are three games on Tuesday at PHS, and the action will begin at 4 p.m. with girls play between Corning and Osceola, followed by Osceola and Hoxie in the boys bracket around 5. The 6 p.m. game will be in the girls bracket between Riverside and the host Lady Mohawks.
The 3A semi-finals at Piggott High School will be played at 4, 6, 5 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The first game will be in the girls bracket as the winner of Corning-Osceola meets the winner of Rivercrest and Walnut Ridge. The 5 p.m. game will be in the boys bracket, as the winner of the Piggott-Riverside game meets the winner of the Manila-Corning contest. The 6 p.m. contest will be in the girls bracket as the winners of the Riverside-Piggott and Hoxie-Manila game will meet. And, the nighcap on Wednesday will be a boys semi-final game between the winners of the Osceola-Hoxie game and the Walnut Ridge-Rivercrest contest.
The girls championship will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Piggott High School, followed by the boys championship around 2.
Meanwhile, at Imboden the top two seeded girls teams, Marmaduke and Sloan-Hendrix, get a bye in the first round. Checking the schedule for Thursday's semi-finals, the first will be played in the girls bracket at 4 p.m. as the Lady Greyhounds take on the winner of the Rector-Ridgefield Christian game. At 5:10 the winner of the Marmaduke-Ridgefield Christian boys game will face the winner of the Sloan-Hendrix-Maynard game. The 6:20 p.m. tip will feature the top-seeded Lady Greyhounds as they take on the winner of the Hillcrest-Maynard game and the 7:30 game will match the top-seeded Hillcrest boys with the winner of the Rector-CRA game.
The winners will be squaring-off on Saturday for the conference finals, with the girls game scheduled to tip-off at 11 a.m. followed by the boys contest around 12:15 p.m. at Sloan-Hendrix High School.
