Cougars Host 'Hounds at RHS
The host Marmaduke Greyhounds swept four basketball games from Rector's Cougars in action on Tuesday of last week.
The senior boys game was the closest, with the Hounds holding on for a 45-42 win. Marmaduke held a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but several misses at the free throw line down the stretch enabled the Cougars to have a chance at the end. Rector was unable to connect on a couple of late trips down the court and the home team claimed the win.
Rector led 17-16 after one quarter, but the Hounds rolled to a 26-20 halftime advantage. Marmaduke was ahead 39-29 heading into the final eight minutes.
Scoring for the winners were Bryson Horton 13, Chad Hall 11, Derek Agee 8, Corey Burks 7 and Billy Elder 6.
Sam Simmons paced Rector with 18 points. Also scoring were Kirk Beshears 9, Cody Ails 9 and Max Ford 6.
Marmaduke went 11-17 at the free throw line and hit four three-pointers. Rector was 2-3 at the charity stripe and nailed five treys.
The senior girls game was close in the early going with Rector holding a 14-13 advantage after one quarter. But the Lady Cougars scored only 13 points the rest of the way as the home team posted a 54-27 victory.
Jordan Mays had a monster game for the winners, dominating all over the court and scoring 29 points. Also scoring for Marmaduke were Natalie Shelton 6, Anna Meredith 5, Scout Weatherford 3, Alyssa Henry 3, Natalie Lentz 2, Darra Johnson 2, Brieanna Barrow 2 and Tabitha Hyten 2.
Rector scoring included Mylessa Gant 11, Matison Dean 9, Gabby Clark 4 and Sawyer Hendrix 3.
Marmaduke was 11-15 at the free throw line and made five three-pointers. The Lady Cougars were 2-4 at the stripe and hit three treys.
Marmaduke totally dominated the junior boys game, winning 50-10 after holding quarter leads of 15-0, 28-5 and 45-10.
Blaine Banning was in double figures for Marmaduke with 11 points. Also scoring were Garrett Hensley 9, Bradley Horton 8, Easton Bradshaw 7, Zach Lee 4, Stryker Collins 4, Andy Agee 3, Austin McCoy 2 and Bryan Haley 2.
Rector scoring included Adam Romine 5, Keaton Speer 2, Lane Stucks 2 and John Hendrix 1.
The Marmaduke junior girls rolled to a 27-0 season mark with a 44-19 win over the visitors. Quarter leads were 14-3, 22-6 and 35-13.
The winners nailed eight three-pointers, with Maggie Mays hitting four of them on the way to scoring 12 points. Also scoring for the Junior Hounds were Reesa Hampton 10, Karlie Gilliam 7, Angel Johnson 6, Heidi Robinson 5, Tori Sutherland 2 and Kylie Tuberville 2.
Scoring three points each for Rector were Michaela Rients, Alyse Gant, Alexis McKnight and Olivia Sutherland. Two points each were added by Rileigh Laden, Carly Robinson and Morgan Garner. Ellie Ford scored one point.
