District Hoops Tourney Update
District tournament play continues tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 14, across the region. Last night the Rector Cougars advanced in the 1A-3 at Bay with a 63-53 win over Maynard, beating the Tigers for the fourth time this season. As a result, both Rector teams will be in action this evening. The girls will play Bay in their first round game at 7 p.m. with the boy's semi-final contest to follow against the host Bay squad at 8:30. Thanks to the first round win by the boys, and the four-team bracket for the girls, both qualify for next week's regional tournament at Calico Rock.
The other games set for tonight include Maynard and Armorel girls at 4 p.m. and Ridgefield Christian and Armorel in the boys bracket around 5:30.
The Piggott Mohawks are scheduled to take on the Manila Lions in their first round game at 8:30 this evening in their first round game in the 3A-3 at Osceola High School. A win would earn them a semi-final match-up with the host Seminoles at 8:30 Thursday evening, and a spot in next week's regional tournament at Riverside. Osceola pounded Hoxie to advance 71-36.
The other first round game tonight in the boys bracket is Riverside and Walnut Ridge at 5:30, with the winner to take on Rivercrest in the semi-final at 5:30 on Thursday. Monday night the Colts upset the higher-seeded Corning Bobcats 68-54 to advance.
In the only girls game of Monday night, the Hoxie Lady Mustangs advanced with a 73-35 win over the Lady Colts of Rivercrest.
The Lady Greyhounds advanced to the semi-finals of the 2A-3 at Cotter on Saturday, and will play again at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while the boys were eliminated by Sloan-Hendrix in the first round. Yesterday BIC upset Cotter and will take on EPC, while Marked Tree easily handled Salem and will take on Sloan-Hendrix in the late game Thursday.
