Mohawks Named Best Under the Sun
Although the high school football season is long past, post-season honors continue for members of the Piggott Mohawks. Recently, the Jonesboro Sun named two of the Tribe to their "Best Under the Sun" selections for this past season. Both players chosen are juniors, as lineman Nate Mallard and linebacker/running back John Jones were recognized. Jones led the region with 151 tackles, including 73 solo tackles, and also rushed for 758 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry, and scored seven touchdowns. Mallard had 48 tackles, including 21 solo tackles, along with a sack and two fumble recoveries--one for a touchdown in the playoff game at Prescott. He also anchored the line in what was the stingiest defense in team history.
The best news for Mohawk fans, and their coaches, is the fact they're just juniors and still have another year in the red and black.
