Postseason High School Basketball Update
Regional basketball tournament play is set to begin this week, with both the Rector Cougar teams slated to be in action Thursday afternoon at Calico Rock. Meanwhile, the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds will be playing Thursday evening in their first round game at Carlisle.
At Bay Friday evening the Cougar girls and boys both won in their third-fourth place seeding games over Armorel to move-on as the three seed from 1A-3 East. The Lady Cougars easily handled the Lady Tigers 49-37 behind senior Matison Dean's 33 points. They'll play at 4 p.m. on Thursday against Izard County Consolidated. The other Thursday game in the girls bracket will be Maynard and Mammoth Spring at 7 p.m. Bay and Calico Rock and Norfork and Armorel will meet in the games on Wednesday in the girls bracket.
The Cougar boys advanced with a 66-55 win over the Tigers, paced by Cody Ails with 20 and Kirk Beshears with 18. They'll play in the 5:30 p.m. game on Thursday as they will take on Mammoth Spring. Thursday's nightcap in the boys bracket will be Ridgefield Christian and Calico Rock. The two first round games set for Wednesday will feature the top-seeded Bay Yellowjackets and Norfork at 5:30 and Izard County and Armorel in the late game.
All four of the semi-finals will be played Friday afternoon and evening, with the championship games and third-fourth place seeding games set for Saturday at Calico Rock High School.
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds fell to Salem 62-39 in their district final at Cotter Friday evening. They'll enter the regional bracket at Carlisle as the second-seed from 2A-2, and will take on the three-seed from 2A-3, McCrory, at 7 p.m. on Thursday. With a win they'll take on the winner of Wednesday night's game between Carlisle and Sloan-Hendrix in one of the girls semi-finals at 7 p.m. on Friday. In the upper half of the bracket Salem and Brinkley meet in the first game Wednesday with Earle and Cotter facing off in the early game on Thursday in the girls bracket.
All of the semi's will be played Friday at Carlisle, with the championship and third-fourth place seeding games all set for Saturday, with the first game tipping-off at noon.
