Tribe Trimmed By Cavemen, Redskins in Conference Play
The Piggott Mohawk baseball squad dropped a pair in conference last week, falling 6-4 at Pocahontas on Thursday afternoon, then falling at Cave City on Friday. The squad was scheduled to be in action at home on Monday afternoon against Harrisburg, and was slated to visit Melbourne on Tuesday, but field conditions did not cooperate.
In the loss to the Redskins, Trey Gossett led the Tribe with a 2 for 3 day at the plate, including 2 doubles and one RBI while Dylan Bellers as 2 for 3 with an RBI. Bret Fuller was 2 for 4 with one double, Josh Lyman was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Quentin Reeves was 2 for 4 on the game.
Lyman got the start for the Mohawks, and took the loss, working four and one-third innings while giving up 4 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and fanning 5 of the Redskin batters. Hayden Lemmons came on and worked one and two-third innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits while walking 2 batters. Jackson Henfling also made an appearance, giving up a run on one hit while walking two.
Brady Durham pitched the win for Pocahontas, and added a two-run home run to the cause in posting the win.
Friday afternoon the Mohawks headed west to Cave City for a conference game with the Cavemen, and fell by a final score of 5-3.
With the losses the Tribe falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
