Ruth Lawanda "Wanda" Palmer
Ruth Lawanda "Wanda" Palmer, 87, of Piggott, Ark., passed away March 21, 2017, at the Rector Nursing and Rehab., in Rector, Ark.
She was born on August 20, 1929, in Rector, and was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Fred and Gladys Lavena (Krick) Scheffler.
She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Palmer and to this union two children were born. Bob preceded her in death after 67 years of marriage on June 26, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Scheffler and sister, Ruby Hampton.
She is survived by her son, Neil Palmer of Little Rock, Ark.; daughter, Judy Palmer Earnhart (Allen) of Piggott; two grandchildren, Erin Palmer Welch (Michael) of North Little Rock, Ark., and Jared Palmer (Lori) of North Little Rock, Ark. Wanda is also survived by one brother, Fred Scheffler of Piggott and two sisters, Elsie Thompson of Piggott, and Bonnie Nelson of Van Buren, Ark. Wanda also had a host of many nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
Wanda was a long-time member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard, Ark. Wanda worked for the Brown Shoe Company for more than 30 years and she and Bob owned and operated a small farm in Pollard.
Wanda loved to work in her large garden while living on the farm, raising vegetables--especially tomatoes and strawberries.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott. Funeral services will immediately follow in the Hoggard and Sons chapel with Bro. Loy Culver officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements.
