Cougars Fall at Corning, Softball Remained Idle

Thursday, March 30, 2017

The Rector Cougars closed out spring break a little early last week, traveling to Corning on Friday, March 24, for a non-conference game with the potent Bobcats. The RHS squad had visited Corning in the season opener and fell 10-1, and last week's outcome was more of the same as the Cougars were shut-out 11-0 in five innings.

Neither team scored in the first inning, and the Cougars failed to get on the board in the top half of the second as well. In the home half of the frame Corning scored two runs to take the lead, adding six more in the bottom of the third and an additional three runs in the fourth to set the final.

Cody Ails, Hunter McNeely and Case Watson all saw action on the mound for the Cougars, while Seth George notched the win for the home team.

With the loss the Rector baseball Cougars fall to 3-4 overall, and 1-1 in conference play. The squad is scheduled to travel to Strawberry on Thursday, March 30, for a conference contest with Hillcrest and is slated to visit Independence Park in Piggott on Friday afternoon for a non-conference game with the Mohawks--if weather and field conditions allow.

The Rector Lady Cougars remain at 0-2 on the young softball season, as weather and spring break has hampered their progress. The squad was scheduled to host the Bay Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday afternoon.

Thursday, March 30, they're slated to travel to Strawberry for a conference game with Hillcrest and Friday afternoon the girls are scheduled to travel to Blytheville for a non-conference tilt with the Lady Chicks. Next Tuesday, April 4, they'll continue the road swing with a short trip to Marmaduke for a game with the Lady 'Hounds.
