Piggott Gearing Up for Busy Saturday

Those attending last year's Piggott FFA farm equipment auction had to bundle-up, as temperatures fell well into the 40s. This year calls for much warmer conditions, although recent rains may result in soggy conditions on Saturday.(TD photo/Tim Blair)

The first Saturday of April brings with it a very busy day for those in the Piggott area. In keeping with a long-standing tradition, the Piggott High School FFA chapter will hold its annual open farm equipment auction at the Clay County Fairgrounds. For the 43rd year in a row Colonel Gary Magee, and the crew with Magee Auction Company, will again be conducting the sale this year. It's scheduled to get underway at 8 a.m., and those wanting additional information may contact the auction company at 870 598-2869.

Sponsored by the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce, the Piggott city wide yard sale will also be going on throughout the day. Each year the City of Piggott waives the requirement for yard sale permits, allowing everyone the chance to hold a sale. In years past dozens of residents have held sales, along with organizations and clubs seeking to raise funds for specific efforts.

As part of their sponsorship, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a list of sale locations, and they may be picked-up at their office in the depot during regular business hours. Copies of the Piggott city map area also available to assist with the search for sale locations. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. They may also be reached by phone at 870 598-3167.

A number of other events are activities will be held, including a sidewalk book sale in front of the Piggott Public Library.

And, for bargain hunters the good news is the weather forecast, as conditions are expected to be favorable on Saturday following a week of poor conditions for outdoor activities.
