The Clay County Arts Council is pleased to announce the Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre will soon roll into Rector on their southern states tour. This year, Jerry Bickel and Holli Rubin return with the touring puppet theatre for the original show, Alice in Wonderland.

"This dynamic performance is appropriate for all elementary school children and the public," the CCAC's Jane Gatewood noted. "Everyone is invited to "share a spot of tea" with us and attend either of the performances."

Two performances will be staged on Tuesday, April 25, with shows at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Rector Community Center.

"The international touring company Bits 'N Pieces is dedicated to influencing the world of tomorrow by enchanting the children of today," Gatewood added. "Their creative puppetry, song, and dance, along with the larger-than-life giant puppets, re-tell children's classic stories, each with its own life lesson and moral. In this particular theatrical extravaganza, children's magical fantasy is ignited and core values are underscored."

In years past the traveling company has staged a number of productions at the RCC, with their performances becoming an annual favorite for local students. This year should also prove to be a popular choice.

"Lewis Carroll's story was originally a whimsical tale created to entertain three young girls," Gatewood explained. "The girls loved the story so much that Carroll went on to complete the work in one night. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is one of his best loved creations because of its imagination and originality."

The two shows will offer the opportunity for all Clay County Elementary schools to attend.

"Tickets are $5 each and scholarships are available," Gatewood added. "Sponsors' donations will allow all students the opportunity to attend the show. Their generosity also augments the Clay County Arts Council's funds needed to bring Jerry and Holli's Puppet World back to Clay County and the Rector Community Center."

Each teacher who signs-up for their students to attend the show will receive an activity packet, a pre-show information plan and assurance Arkansas Education curriculum standards and benchmarks are addressed. Teachers or administrators wanting to reserve their school's seating and performance time may call Gail Burns at 870-240-3014.
