The Arkansas State Police reports a Piggott man was killed, and two other local men seriously injured, in a single vehicle crash which occured last Thursday, March 30, east of Pollard. The preliminary fatal crash report from the ASP indicated the accident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on County Road 341, south of U.S. Highway 62. The county road, the majority of which is paved, is commonly referred to as the "Fruit Stand Road" by local residents.

According to the report, Jeffery Dunlap, 35, was driving a 1987 Chevrolet pickup southbound at the time of the crash. The narrative stated the truck crested a hill and went airborne. Upon landing the driver apparently lost control and the truck struck a tree, ejecting Dunlap and two passengers.

The two passengers were identified as Kalem Rouse, 25, and Joe Rouse, 29, both of Piggott.

Kalem Rouse was transported to the Piggott Community Hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead a short time later by Dr. Clinton Smith. Dunlap and Joe Rouse, Kalem's older brother, were transported to hospitals in Memphis and Jonesboro respectively for treatment, although additional details about the extent of their injuries were not included in the report.

The crash was investigated by Corporal Michael Tompkins of the ASP.

Funeral services for Kalem Rouse were held Wednesday afternoon at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Piggott. The complete obituary may be found in that section of this website.
