Lady Mohawk Drop Two
The Piggott Lady Mohawks fell to Rivercrest 14-5 Friday afternoon at Independence Park. The Tribe was out-hit 22 to 5 by the Lady Colts, as they dropped the conference game. The squad was also in action at Pocahontas on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Lady Redskins 8-0.
Lexi Herren got the start and took the loss against Rivercrest, although the Lady Mohawks hung with the visitors in the early innings. In fact, the Tribe led 1-0 after the first, with the Lady Colts plating three runs in the top of the second.
On the day, Herren fanned three and walked two Rivercrest batters as she worked the full seven innings.
The Mohawks failed to score in the home half of the second inning, and neither team scored in the third, as Rivercrest enjoyed the 3-1 advantage going into the fourth. Holding the Lady Colts scoreless in the top of the inning, the Mohawks erupted for a four-run home half to take a 5-3 lead into the fifth.
Rivercrest answered with three more runs in the top of the fifth, two more in the sixth and six more in the seventh to set the final score.
Grayson Murray paced the Tribe at the plate with a 2 for 4 day, as she drove in one run and scored another. Also collecting hits were Ally Kilbreath, Abby Dutka and Hayley Springsteen--who had two RBI to her credit. Dutka also added an RBI, along with Alexis Russell, although she was hitless on the day.
With the losses the Lady Mohawks fell to 3-7 overall. The Tribe was scheduled to return to the friendly confines of Independence Park on Thursday for a contest with Melbourne. Next Tuesday, April 11, they're slated to host Walnut Ridge in conference play.
