Lady 'Hounds Drop Thriller to Wildcats
Marmaduke (5-2) scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, only to watch Trumann (9-5) score a run on a sacrifice fly to beat the Lady Greyhounds 6-5 this past Thursday in high school softball action in Trumann.
Jordan Mays grounded out leading off the game for Marmaduke as Natalie Lentz followed with a line out to third. Sammi Henry drew a two-out walk. Courtesy runner Angel Johnson stole second only to be left stranded when Bailey Bridges struck out. Lexi Jackson led of with a bunt single for Trumann before stealing second base. Sydney Callahan and Olivia Greenwell both struck out. Jackson stole third base before Daly Taylor popped out to end the inning with the score 0-0. Natalie Shelton beat out an infield hit to lead off the second inning for the Lady Greyhounds before stealing second base. April Kennedy was hit by a pitch before Rachel Martin struck out looking. Shelton was thrown out trying to steal third base before Alyssa Henry struck out for the third out. The Lady Wildcats went down in order as Anna Waleszonia popped out, Maddi Payne reached on an error before Kendall Pruitt lined out as Payne was caught off base for a double play keeping the score 0-0 after two innings of play.
Maggie Mays struck out to start the top of the third for Marmaduke as Jordan Mays followed with a single and advanced to second when the outfielder bobbled the ball. Lentz and Sammi Henry both grounded out leaving Jordan Mays on second base. Hannah Craig singled to lead off for Trumann as Mya Chandler flew out. Jackson again bunted for a base hit before Callahan singled to load the bases. Courtesy runner Kayla Spence was forced at home on Greenwell's grounder before Taylor lined out to leave the bases loaded as the score remained 0-0. Bridges struck out for Marmaduke leading off the fourth inning as Shelton followed with a base hit before moving to second base on a passed ball. Kennedy grounded as Shelton moved to third base only to be left there as Martin struck out for out number three. The Lady Wildcats went down in order in the bottom half as Waleszonia, Payne and Pruitt all grounded out as the game stayed scoreless after four innings of play.
Alyssa Henry and Maggie Mays both grounded out for the Lady Greyhounds in the top of the fifth before Jordan Mays laced a two-out double. Lentz grounded out to leave Jordan Mays on second base. Craig singled to lead off for Trumann in the bottom of the fifth as Spence came on to run. Spence moved to second on a passed ball before scoring when Chandler reached on an error. Chandler was thrown out trying to get to second on the play. Jackson lined out and Callahan grounded out as the Trumann took a 1-0 lead after five. Marmaduke went down in order in the top of the sixth as Sammi Henry grounded out, Bridges flew out and Shelton popped out. The Lady Wildcats sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. Greenwell led off with a single as Taylor reached on an error. Waleszonia bunted for a single to load bases before Payne coaxed a walk that scored pinch runner Misty Moye making it 2-0 Trumann. Pruitt's single scored Taylor and Waleszonia as Craig's double scored Payne as Pruitt was called out for missing third base on an appeal making the score 5-0 Lady Wildcats. Chandler singled with two outs before being forced at second on Jackson's ground ball.
Marmaduke tied the game in the top of the seventh as they sent nine batters to plate scoring five runs. Kennedy flew out before Martin reached on an error. Alyssa Henry singled as Martin scored when the outfield misplayed the ball. Ressa Hampton came on as a courtesy runner for Alyssa Henry and scored when Maggie Mays tripled to make the score 5-2 Trumann. Jordan Mays singled to plate Maggie Mays as Lentz beat out a grounder for an infield hit. Sammi Henry's single scored Jordan Mays making it 5-4 Lady Wildcats. Lentz scored on a ground out by Brides to tie the game at 5 as Shelton grounded out for the third out. Callahan tripled to lead off the top of the seventh for Trumann and scored the winning run on Greenwell's sacrifice fly to left field making it 6-5 Lady Wildcats.
Jordan Mays collected three hits, scored a run and drove in a run to lead Maramduke at the plate. Shelton had two hits and a stolen base, Sammi Henry had a hit and a RBI, Maggie Mays had a hit, a run scored and a RBI, Lentz had a hit and a run scored, Bridges had a RBI, Martin scored a run, Alyssa Henry had a hit, Hampton scored a run as Johnson added a stolen base.
Sammi Henry took the tough luck loss as she pitched six innings while allowing six runs on ten hits. She walked one and struck out two.
Craig led Trumann with three hits and a RBI as Jackson had two hits and two stolen bases. Callahan finished with two hits and a run scored, Pruitt had a hit and two RBIs, Greenwell had a hit and a RBI, Waleszonia had a hit and a run scored, Chandler had a hit as Payne scored a run and had a RBI. Taylor, Spence and Moye all scored a run.
Craig got the win in the circle as she pitched all seven innings giving up five runs on nine hits with on walks, six strikeouts and one hit batter.
Last week the Lady 'Hounds beat Sloan-Hendrix 23-4 in three innings, with Henry pitching two no-hit innings. Jordan Mays drove in six runs, and scored four, as she led the way with a 2 for 3 day at the plate while Bailey Bridges scored three runs and had four RBI, as she was also 2 for 3 on the day.
