Eugene Collier passed away peacefully in the Piggott Community Hospital on Monday, April 10, 2017, in Piggott, Ark., after an extended illness.
He was born on Thursday, September 2, 1926, to Luther David and Anna Ruth (nee Burgess) Collier in Cookville, Tenn. They preceded him in death.
On Saturday, June 26, 1948, he married Vinnie Delores Warren and to this union one child, an infant son, Jerry Lynn Collier, who preceded them in death was born. She preceded him in death on Thursday, November 2, 2000.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S Army as a military policeman during the occupation of Japan in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He was a retiree of Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Mich., where he was an employee for 30 years.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially enjoying rabbit and squirrel hunting. He was an excellent marksman who enjoyed skeet shooting and gunsmithing and reloading shells. He also was a handyman around the home.
On Friday, February 24, 2002, he married Lora Fay Howell in the Clay County Courthouse-Eastern District in Piggott by former County Judge Gary Howell. She survives.
He is also survived by one stepson, Michael Howell; one-step granddaughter, Kylie Allen and husband Jeremiah; step-grandchildren, Jason, Gabrielle, Katelynn, Jesse and Aryn; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, with funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial is in Williams Cemetery, west of Piggott. Pallbearers are Donald Ray Rogers, Steve Latta, Michael Howell, Randy Mikel, Johnny Latta, and Danny Brown. Honorary Pallbearers are John Watson, Don Taylor, Vernel Bradshaw, and Ed Thompson.
