Lady 'Hounds Wrap Up District Title
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds assured another conference title Monday afternoon, sweeping BIC at home in a double header. Saturday they beat the Piggott Lady Mohawks twice in the Marmaduke Classic.
The Lady 'Hounds easily handled Piggott in four innings in the first game of tournament play Saturday, erupting for seven runs in the second inning, adding four more in the third and another in the fourth for an even dozen. Meanwhile, Marmaduke pitching held the Lady Mohawks at bey as they could only muster a pair of runs to set the final at 12-2.
In the second game the 'Hounds scored five in the first, four in the second and three in the third, as they took the game 12-1 in three.
Monday afternoon the MHS girls hosted Buffalo Island Central, and beat the Lady Mustangs 10-0 and 5-1. The wins insure the Marmaduke girls yet another conference title, although there are still several games to be played.
Sammi Henry worked three no-hit innings against BIC, and helped her cause at the plate with a 2 for 2 day with a double. Natalie Shelton was also 2 for 2 with two runs scored, while Rachel Martin had a hit and scored a pair of runs.
Henry also got the nod in the nightcap, twirling a two-hitter while adding a hit of her own and a pair of RBI. Jordan Mays had a strong game at the plate, as she was 2 for 3 with a triple while Maggie Mays recorded a hit and drove in a pair of runs in the win.
The Lady Greyhounds were slated to host Maynard Tuesday afternoon, and will visit Naylor (Mo.) Thursday and EPC on Friday. Monday, April 17, they'll travel to Corning for non-conference play with the Lady Bobcats and on Tuesday Sloan-Hendrix is slated to visit Marmaduke.
