Lady Cougars Roll Into Late Season
The Rector Lady Cougars swept Sloan-Hendrix at home last Thursday, April 6, in conference play, posting decisive shut-outs. Monday afternoon they hosted Hillcrest and dropped a one-run conference game.
The Rector girls proved to be poor hosts last Thursday, as they pounded the Lady Greyhounds at the Sports Complex 16-0 and 12-0 in the conference twin-bill.
In the first game Mylesa Gant had two hits, while Maddie Hobbs, Colbie Robinson and Michaela Rients all had one. Maddie Hobbs got the start in the circle, and notched the win, giving up just one hit and two walks while striking out three.
Maddie Hobbs also worked the nightcap, throwing a no-hitter at the Lady 'Hounds while walking just one and fanning five Sloan-Hendrix batters.
Hobbs, Gant, Robinson and Sawyer Hendrix all had hits, with Gant driving in three runs in the victory.
Monday afternoon the Lady Screamin' Eagles of Hillcrest visited the Sports Complex, and squeaked-out a 6-5 win over the Lady Cougars. Maddie Hobbs was once-again in the circle, and was saddled with the loss, while the Cougar infield committed five errors behind her. On the day she gave up eight hits, hit one batter, walked another and struck out five.
At the plate, Gant had a strong game with a triple, a double and two RBI; Maddie Hobbis had a triple, Robinson got two hits and drove-in three runs, Hendrix got a hit and Riley Laden also got a hit in the loss.
We just did not play very well, Cougar Coach David Hendrix said of the contest. I will take the blame for this one-I did not have them ready.
The Rector squad was looking to rebound from the loss Tuesday afternoon, as they were slated to visit Marked Tree. Thursday, April 13, they're scheduled to visit the Maynard Tigers and Friday they'll be bac at home to host Marked Tree to complete the home-and-away series with the Lady Indians.
