Opening Night Monday at Independence Park

Opening night for Piggott Youth Baseball/Softball is Monday, April 17. This year there are 17 local baseball and softball youth teams which will be playing at Independence Park.

The softball league consists to two age groups, with seven, eight and nine year olds playing on either the Hogwild BBQ or Piggott State Bank team. Meanwhile, the 10, 11 and 12 year olds will play on three teams, sponsored by W.B. Russell, Gossett Real Estate and Aerial Bouquets.

The baseball age groups will include ragball for three and four year olds, with three teams sponsored by Legacy Equipment, American Legion and Gregory's Insurance. The Tee-ball is open to five and six year olds with three teams sponsored by W.W. Recycling, Piggott Masonic Lodge and Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home. The coach-pitch players are seven and eight year olds, and this year there are two teams which are sponsored by Jones Furniture and First National Bank.

The minor league is open to players nine and 10 years old, and there are two teams sponsored by Cox Lumber and D&G Plumbing and Heating. And the major league includes 11 and 12 year olds, and the two teams are sponsored by State Farm Insurance and Hobb's Siding and Windows.

The organization also has a facebook page, Piggott Youth Baseball/Softball, which will provide information on rainouts and schedule changes.

“Thanks to all the sponsors for their support, and if anyone wants to volunteer feel free to call any of the board members,” a group spokesman noted. “And, good luck to all the teams.”

The organization will also be hosting the Piggott Invitational Tournament for ages 7 to 12 on May 25 to 28, and will host the 2017 12 and Under District Tournament June 16 to 18, at Independence Park.
