Frances Grissom

Frances Lee (Warren) Grissom was born November 30, 1924, on the family farm in Clay County, Ark., outside of Piggott. She passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017, at Inland Christian Home in Ontario, Calif., at the age of 92, a little over three years after the death of her beloved husband, Denver. They were married in 1945 and their bond lasted over 68 years.

Frances was a homemaker her entire life, while her husband worked extremely hard in the paving industry. Together they raised two children, Patricia and Garry, who were both born when the family lived for a time in Michigan. The family moved west to California in 1956 and purchased a home in Ontario. When Patricia and Garry were grown, and had families of their own, Denver and Frances decided to return to Arkansas in 1990. Fourteen years later, in 2004, they moved back to California, at the urging of their daughter, and remained in the Upland/Ontario area for the remainder of their lives. Frances remained a resident of Inland Christian Home, even after Denver passed away in 2014, until she went to rest in the arms of Jesus.

Frances loved to paint, and was a prolific artist from her mid 50's until her late 80’s. She was also very talented in arts and crafts, making countless crochet items for herself and gifts for others. Frances loved to go to yard sales, purchase other people’s junk and re-purpose them into her own “treasures.” From their early days of retirement she and Denver loved to travel with their fifth wheel trailer, and made countless trips across the United States, from Arkansas to California and back, while visiting family and friends.

Frances is survived by one sister, Mary Rogers from Rector, Ark.; her daughter, Patricia Ann Carls and husband Wayne of Ontario, Calif.; her son, Garry Lee Grissom and wife Deborah of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Greg Carls, Kristy Burroughs, Bryan Grissom and Renae Dodd; as well as six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Alexander and Bradley Carls, Wyatt Dodd and Darrel and Nikki Burroughs.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Stone Funeral Chapel in Upland, Calif. Interment will take place privately at the Bellevue Mausoleum in Ontario.

In lieu of flowers or personal memorials, the family suggests a donation to either Inland Christian Home, 1950 South Mountain Avenue, Ontario, Calif., 91762 or Faith in Angels Hospice, 120 South Victory Boulevard., Suite 203, Burbank, Calif., 91502. Those giving are asked to please specify your gift is “in memory of Frances Grissom.”
