Talent Show to Kick-Off Piggott Heritage Car Show

Thursday, April 27, 2017

A talent show, featuring performers from three states, will serve to kick-off the schedule for this year's Piggott Heritage Car Show, set for May 19 to 21. The talent show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at the Piggott Community Center, and the proceeds from the $5 admission at the door will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event is sponsored by Piggott State Bank.

“Last year's beauty contest was a big hit, and raised a lot of money, and we plan to bring it back in 2018,” event organizer Tony Pace offered. “This year we've lined up some great talent for a big show on Friday evening of the car show, and expect to raise a lot of money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”

Last year's male beauty pageant also benefitted the charity, with the proceeds from the entry money and gate reciepts donated to the local committee. In keeping with the spirit of the event, the winners also donated their prize money at the conclusion of the evening.

“Like we did with the beauty contest, there will be buckets corresponding to each of the entrants,” Pace explained. “The audience will have the chance to vote for their favorite by putting cash donations into their bucket. Whoever raises the most money through the voting process will be the winner—and it all benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”

In keeping with the tradition began at last year's beauty contest the local car show organizers will, at a minimum, also match the money raised by the donations.

The Friday night show serves to kick-off the weekend, with the all day show and shine on Saturday at Heritage Park. That evening the annual cruise to town will be held, with entertainment “under the lights” on the downtown square. The annual awards ceremony will be held Sunday morning.

Registration for this year's car show continues at a rate of $35. Additional vehicles may also be entered by the same owner for $5 each, which will include them in the judging and allow them to take part in the annual cruise. A special “Saturday only” rate of $20 is also available, which entitles the entrant to all the judging and festivities on Saturday, with the exception of the evening meal.

Entries may be mailed to Piggott Heritage Car Show, 193 West Main Street, Piggott, Ark., 72454. Additional information may be obtained by calling Pace at 870 598-2168 or Joe Cole at 901 246-7647.
