A former Rector Cougar standout will be joining the staff at RHS in the fall, following action by the school board at a special meeting held Tuesday afternoon. According to Superintendent Johnny Fowler, Mitchell Weber has been hired for the coming school year.

“We hired Mitchell Weber to be a social studies teacher for next year and he'll also be assistant basketball coach,” Fowler said afterward. “We're happy to have him on staff, and feel he's going to do a great job for us.”

Weber was a two-sport standout for the Cougars, graduating in 2013. As a member of the state semi-finalist baseball squad he was an all-conference honorable mention, and was named MVP for the season.

As a member of the RHS basketball squad he was recognized for highest free throw percentage, best three point average and was named offensive MVP for the season. He was also chosen as an All-Conference selection and to the All-NEA team. At the conclusion of his senior year he was also recognized, along with Kelly Fowler, as one of the Rector High School Athletes of the Year at the annual sports banquet.

Later, he attended ASU and more recently has served as the Rector peewee basketball coach.
