The Piggott Mohawks are set for regional tournament play this week at Manila, after qualifying with a first round district tournament win over Rivercrest. The Tribe advanced in the first round over the Colts last Tuesday, April 25, by a final of 7-5 behind a strong pitching performance by Josh Lyman. The following day they dropped an 8-2 decision to the host Rebels, and on Thursday afternoon they were edged in the third-fourth place seeding game against Manila by a final of 3-1.

The Corning Bobcats had beaten the Lions in the other semi-final, and they fell to Riverside in the championship game 3-1.

As the fourth seed from 3A-3, the Mohawks are scheduled to play in the first game of the Region 3A-3 bracket at 10 a.m. Friday as they face the 25-4 Clinton Yellowjackets at Manila. The other first round games will see Corning and Melbourne meet at 12:30 p.m., followed by Riverside and Mountain View at 3 p.m. and Valley Springs and Manila at 5:30.

Semi-finals are set for noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the third-fourth place game at noon on Monday and the championship game at 2:30. All of the first round regional baseball and softball games were postponed by the AAA due to rain and wet field conditions in some parts of the state.
