Missouri Man Killed in Two Vehicle Truck Crash
The Arkansas State Police reports a Missouri man was killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon southeast of Corning. The crash occurred at 12:14 p.m. at the intersection of Highways 135 and 90 West, commonly referred to as the Knobel Y.
According to the report, an eastbound 2014 Freightliner, driven by Aaron Barks, 36, of Jackson, Mo., ran the stop sign at the intersection, striking a southbound semi-truck in the passenger door. The second vehicle, a 2016 International, was being driven by Barry Mize, 49, of Somerville, Tenn.
Following the impact the trucks slid into the side ditch and struck a power pole then burst into flame. Both were destroyed by fire, although Mize was able to exit his vehicle with what were described as minor to moderate injuries. He was transported from the scene to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould for treatment.
Barks was pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Coroner Paul Hoggard and the body was taken to Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Dustin Morgan of the Arkansas State Police with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff's Department and Greene County Sheriff's Department.
