Lady Cougars Eliminated in Regional Play

Rector (9-8) let Viola get out to a four run lead before cutting the lead in half at 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Longhorns sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning plating eight runs to go up 12-2 ending the game via the run rule in the opening round of the 1A-2 regional tournament in Armorel this past Friday. The loss ended the Lady Cougars season.

Rector went down in order in the top of the first inning as Colbie Robinson grounded out, Emma Hobbs struck out and Sawyer Hendrix grounded out. Viola plated a run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mylesa Gant singled leading off the top of the second for the Lady Cougars as Maddie Hobbs reached on a fielderís choice as Gant beat the throw to second base. Matison Deanís sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base only to see Cheyenne Rients strike out and Cheyanne Ellis ground out to leave the runners stranded. The Lady Longhorns got their lead-off batter on before Maddie Hobbs struck out the next two batters and got a line out to end the inning keeping the score 1-0 Viola.

Mykayla Rients struck out to lead off the top of the third for Rector as Robinson followed with a ground out. Emma Hobbs reached on error only to be left on base when Hendrix grounded out. Viola used five hits and a sacrifice to score three runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-0 Lady Longhorns. Gant doubled leading off the top of the fourth inning for the Lady Cougars as Maddie Hobbs grounded out. Dean reached on an error that scored Gant to make the score 4-1 Viola. Cheyenne Rients struck out swinging before Ellis looked at strike three for the third out. The Lady Longhorns went down in order as the score stayed 4-1 Viola after four innings.

Makayla Rients struck out again as she led off the top of the fifth as Robinson followed with a double. Emma Hobbs singled to plate Robinson making it 4-2 before Hendrix singled. Gantís fielderís choice forced Hendrix at second base as Maddie Hobbs grounded out for out three. Viola used six base hits and took advantage of three Rector errors to score eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 12-2 as the game was called due to the run rule.

Gant had two hits and a run scored to lead Rector at the plate as Emma Hobbs had a hit and a RBI. Robinson added a hit and a run scored with Hendrix getting a hit.

Maddie Hobbs took the loss in the circle for the Lady Cougars as she gave up 12 runs on 14 hits while walking striking out seven and hitting one batter.
