Piggott School Board Relieves Superintendent of Duties
The Piggott School Board met in special session Thursday, May 11, and voted to relieve superintendent Charlie Powell of her day-to-day duties.
Another special meeting was held Friday afternoon and PHS principal Barry DeHart was named interim superintendent and authorized to sign checks for the district.
“Superintendent Powell has been relieved of her day-to-day responsibilities, but she remains on staff on an as-needed basis until further notice,” board president Hope Burns said. “Due to the fact this is a personnel matter we'll not have any further comment at this time.”
In Powell's absence, DeHart was also pressed into service at Sunday's PHS commencement exercises as he presented the class of 2017 for graduation.
The board also held a special meeting Wednesday, May 17, approving the plans for the new storage building at Parker Field, Afterward, they entered into an executive session to discuss personnel matters with DeHart and PHS counselor Faith Conley. Later, Conley exited the meeting and after nearly two hours the board re-convened--voting to adjourn without taking any action.
