Rector Squad Takes Second in Piggott Invitational
Despite some wet conditions, Piggott's Independence Park hosted the annual Piggott Invitational Baseball Tournament this past weekend. There was a full bracket in both the 12 and under and the 10 and under brackets, with a Rector team taking home the second place trophy in their division.
First round games were played Thursday and Friday of last week, with the tournament wrapping up with play day on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening. In the finals of 12 and under the Greene County Tech Eagles took first place, edging out the Rector squad. Members of the second place Rector team included Brett Fair, Sam Shipley, Cooper Rabjohn, Shaun McAfee, Jackson Hill, Landon Haywood, Holden Linam, Drew Henderson, Ashton Scott and Carter Hill. The team was coached by Brian Linam, Nate Henderson and Matt Rabjohn.
The team from Piggott was just out of the running for a trophy, as they finished third in the 12 and under bracket.
Meanwhile, the top two teams in the 10 and under bracket were both from Southeast Missouri, with the Bootheel Outlaws of Portageville taking first, followed by the New Madrid War Eagles.
The tournament served as a major fundraiser for the Piggott Youth Association, and organizers offered their thanks to all those who assisted. Billy Joe Seal served as the tournament director.
