Soles for Souls Set for Friday Evening

Thursday, June 15, 2017

In tribute to the legacy and memory of the late Melvin Crockett, the first annual Melvin Crockett Memorial Soles for Souls 5K and 10K run/walk has been planned. Organizers note the event is set to begin at 7 p.m. this Friday, June 16. The inaugural event will not only provide funds for 2017 summer mission trips, but also bring people to Rector for more than one race event a year.

Organizers noted it will be an evening race and will be followed by a block party for participants’ families. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sno-cones, inflatables and much more will be available for the whole family for those who participate in one of the races.

Those wanting to support the effort may do so in a number of ways, including registration fees of $25 or $35 dependent on whether you cover the 5K or 10K distance and your specific age group. Participants must choose to either walk or run, not both, and included in the registration fee is a t-shirt and goody bag. Those wanting to support the effort, but not run or walk the course, may do so by paying $20 to be a “spirit runner/walker.”

The event is sponsored by Rector First Baptist Church and Women in Mission group, and all funds will benefit the summer mission outreaches to Guatemala and the state of Washington.
