Rector Squad Prevails as Local Teams Meet in District Finals

Independence Park in Piggott hosted the Cal Ripkin 12 and-under District Two tournament Friday through Sunday, June 16 to 18, with six regional teams in the bracket. Included were the host team from Piggott along with Rector, Corning, Walnut Ridge, Pocahontas and Delta. And, at the conclusion of both pool and elimination play, the squad from Rector had earned first place honors, beating the Piggott team in Sunday's final.

In the semi-final games Sunday afternoon the Rector team pounded Walnut Ridge 15-1 while the Piggott squad advanced with a 12-6 win over cross-county rival Corning. With both teams entering the title game unbeaten on the weekend, the Rector squad rolled to a 10-0 win to take the championship.
