Pageant Season Set to Begin
The Piggott Cemetery Association will be hosting several beauty pageants in conjunction with this year's annual Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming. The first three are set for the evening of Monday, July 3, with the remainder the be held the following day.
The first will be held at 5:30 p.m. as Young Junior Miss Piggott is crowned. The event is open to young ladies ages nine through 12, and the attire is pageant wear. The second pageant will be held at 6:30 as Young Miss Piggott is selected from among contestants ages 13 to 16. The final pageant of the evening will begin at 8 p.m. as Mrs. Piggott will be chosen.
The pageants set for Tuesday, July 4, will begin at 11:30 a.m. as baby boys and girls ages birth through 11 months will compete in the Baby Mr. and Miss pageant. At 12:30 p.m. the Tiny Mr. and Miss pageant will be held for boys and girls ages 12 to 24 months; at 2:30 the Little Mr. and Miss pageant will be held for boys and girls ages two to four; and at 3:30 p.m. young ladies ages five to seven will compete for the title of Little Miss Firecracker. The proper attire for all of the early pageants on the Fourth of July is casual wear.
The highlight of the evening will begin at 8 p.m. as Miss Piggott is crowned for 2017 from among young ladies ages 17 to 21. The attire is pageant wear, and the winner will receive a $500 scholarship courtesy of Piggott State Bank.
The entry fee is $25 for all pageants, and all proceeds benefit the Piggott Cemetery Association. Contestants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their pageant to register, and forms may be picked up at the Treasure Chest, The Nest, Ort Insurance and Williams Nursery
A full schedule of pageants will be held at the annual Pollard Picnic, set for Saturday, July 8. There are several divisions, with pageants going on throughout the day. The first will be held at 10 a.m. as boys and girls ages birth through 12 months compete in the Baby Pollard pageant. At 10:30 the Toddler Pollard pageant will be held, featuring boys and girls ages one year through 23 months. The Petite Miss Pollard pageant will be held at noon, for girls ages two to four; Little Miss Pollard will be crowned in the 3 p.m. event, for girls ages five to seven, and Junior Miss Pollard will be crowned in the 5 p.m. pageant, for young ladies ages eight to 12. The highlight of the day will begin at 8 p.m., as Miss Pollard will be crowned from among contestants ages 13 to 18.
The entry fee is $25 each each division, and all daytime contests will feature sportswear or casual wear only. However, Miss Pollard will feature pageant wear only. Contestants are also asked to register before the day of the contest by calling 870 450-0805, 870 324-2136 or 573-778-2535.
