Mary Alene Lawrence
Mary Lawrence, 85, of Rector, Ark., passed away on June 14, 2017, at the Green Acres Nursing Home, Paragould, Ark. She was born May 2, 1932, in Hayti, Mo., to John and Marie (Meredith) Wheeler. To Mary, life was about family and church. She taught Sunday School for 25 to 30 years in the Junior High and High School Department, she loved singing in the Church choir and performing solos. Her family meant the world to her. She loved Christmas time, cooking for everyone, decorating her home, gardening and crafts.
On April 3, 1950, she married her childhood sweetheart, James Lawrence, whom she was married to for 49 years and four months. They were blessed with two sons, Randy (Teresa) Lawrence from Finch, Ark., and Barry Lawrence of Cincinatti, Ohio; and a daughter, Beverly (Gary) Joseph of Benbrook, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Loomis, Amber (Namon) Jennings, Chris (Mary) Lawrence, J.R. (Brittany) Lawrence, Monica (Phillip) Stanley, Kayla Teters and Shawn Piperski; great-grandchildren, Emilee Munchrath, Laura Loomis, Marleigh Lawrence, Mila Stanley, Grady Jennings, Leah Loomis, Poppy Stanley and Baylor Lawrence; her brother, Sonny (Sandra) Brown of Rector; a sister, Sandi Lynn (Karl) Rudi of Marmaduke; a brother-in-law, Howard (Bonnie) Winberry; and sisters-in-laws, Vicky Brown of West Plain, Mo., JoNell Hummert of Mascoutah, Ill. and Nancy Lawrence of Tampa, Fla. along with special family members Mack Holland, Kim Gremmeisen, Dena Johnson and Cindy Lawhon; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, John Wheeler; her Pop and mother, Neville and Marie Brown; her husband, James Lawrence; a grandchild, Amelia Jennings; her brothers, J.E. (Dean) Wheeler and Butch Brown, and her sisters, Marlis Winberry and JoAnn (Louis) Mathis.
Visitation will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector. Funeral service will follow at 11:30. Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery, Rector
