Bragging rights will be on the line once again Friday evening, June 30, as the Piggott Mohawk Football Alumni Booster Club hosts an alumni football game. The contest is set to kick-off at 7 p.m. on the plush new natural turf of Parker Field, as the odd year graduates take on the even year grads for yet another taste of gridiron glory.

“We've got 63 signed up right now to play, but we'll take guys Friday afternoon too,” Mohawk Head Football Coach Michael Harrell noted Tuesday. “We'll be registering players beginning at 5 in the old gym on South Garfield and they can come on by.”

The turnout is a bit better than the 2015 event, when about 50 former Mohawks were on the rosters.

Along with the chance to enjoy the action, those attending will also have the chance to see the many additions and improvements to the football/track facility. In the past 18 months there have been a number of changes, and several more are still in the works.

In addition to the recent paving of the track surface at Parker Field, the coaches and their helpers have been busy working on the facilities. The old blockhouse has gotten a new coat of dark gray paint, fencing has been added around the former practice field—now home to the shot put and discus rings, and the concrete work has been completed. The new equipment shed, built as a home for the newly-acquired track items, has also been completed and pressed into service.

The new natural turf surface, which is just about a year old, has matured into a perfect playing surface.

Later this summer the track surface will be applied—in Mohawk red of course, and fencing will be added between it and the bleachers. The concession stand will also be partially torn-down, and renovated. Work is also planned on the press box.

All proceeds from the player registration, gate and concessions will benefit the PHS football program, as the alumni game serves as one of their major fundraisers.

The public is also invited, and encouraged, to attend and cheer on their favorite Mohawks from days gone by.
