Pollard Picnic Saturday

In keeping with tradition, this week's Pollard Picnic was promoted in the annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic Parade on Tuesday.

The schedule is set for the 85th annual Pollard Picnic, set for this Saturday, July 8. The event is held each July at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.

The picnic is set to officially open at 9 a.m. and throughout the day there will also be live music between events and pageants featuring J.R. Rogers and the All Stars. During the opening ceremonies the invocation will be given, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem. Following the opening ceremony remarks from local and regional politicians will be heard. Afterward, at 10 a.m. the first of the pageants will be held. At 11 a.m. the air conditioned kitchen will open and volunteers will be serving fried chicken dinners throughout the remainder of the day. The full schedule of softball games will also be getting underway Saturday morning, and will wrap-up in the late afternoon hours.

Also on the schedule is the annual bubble gum bubble blowing contest, for boys and girls up to the age of 12, set for 2:30 p.m. Event organizers will also be recognizing the oldest man and women present, and the person traveling the furthest, with registration at the bank stand throughout the morning and early afternoon.

A variety of stands will be in operation throughout the day, and at 6 p.m. the annual auction of donated items will be held.

Visitors to the picnic will also have the opportunity to buy chances on drawings for $50, $100 and a handmade quilt and organizers note you do not have to be present to win. The drawings will be held at the conclusion of the picnic, following the annual Miss Pollard Pageant Saturday evening.

10 a.m. - "Baby Pollard" contest for boys and girls. Boy's division and a girl's division from birth through 12 months. Dress in sportswear/casual clothing.

10:30 a.m. – “Baby Toddler” contest for boys and girls ages one year through 24 months. Dress in sportswear /casual clothing.

12 noon - "Petite Miss Pollard" contest for girls divisions ages two to four. Contestants must wear sportswear /casual clothing.

3 p.m. - "Little Miss Pollard" event for girls ages five to seven. Contestants are to wear sportswear/casual wear.

5 p.m. - "Junior Miss Pollard" contest for girls ages eight to 12. Contestants are to dress in sportswear/casual wear only.

8 p.m. - "Miss Pollard" contest is open to girls ages 13 to 18. Contestants are to dress in pageant wear.

The entry fee for each division is $25 and payable the day of the event. All contestants are asked to register before the day of the contest. There will not be a practice for any of the divisions. Pageant wear is required in the Miss Pollard contest and all other divisions will wear sportswear/casual clothing.
