Piggott Council Approves Property Purchase
Members of the Piggott City Council met in special session during the noon hour Monday, passing a resolution to allow the purchase of a parcel of land north of Heritage Park. During the gathering the council members voted 4-0 to allow the purchase to proceed, and allow Mayor Jim Poole to sign any related documents.
Recently, the owners of the property approached the city concerning the land, which encompasses 33.61 acres. The land in question is just north of the park, across Heritage Park Road, and is bordered on both the east and north by Sycamore Road. Current property owners are listed as Robert M. and Joan S. Stewart and Charles R. and Suzanne B. Stewart.
Mayor Poole reported the family had offered to sell the property for $100,830, which equates to $3,000 an acre. He indicated the city would also provide the family with documentation of a value of $5,000 an acre, reflecting a sizeable donation for tax purposes.
Following a brief discussion, the resolution was introduced and read by City Clerk Ramona Magee. Afterward, it was approved on a vote of 4-0.
On hand for the meeting in addition to Poole and Magee were council members Mike Cook, Jamey Parks, Jeff Benbrook and Travis Williams.
